The following video is brought to you by . I made this video to illustrate PERSONAL DEVOTIONS the concept of the article below. This  is part of the track I pass to get to my favorite spot to be, when I am not at home, work or church. When I walk here I hear the frogs, the katydids, the birds chirping, and the water bubbling. It sounds to me like they are all singing praises to the God in Heaven!  So enjoy.  Please turn up the volume and don’t laugh at my pink tracksuit.

In the Gospel of  Matthew   we see Jesus himself

“And when he had sent the multitudes away,
he went up into a mountain apart to pray:
and when the evening was come, he was there alone. “Matthew 14:23

What does this tell me there is some special blessing to be had taking
the time away from the distractions of our busy lives and being out in nature.
He who was the King of Glory who had commanded  armies of angels who had created our universe
He who is part of the God Head, took the time  to be spiritually recharged
and connect with Heaven as part of the day.

As I spend this specially carved out piece of time with God  ,whether its out doors or indoors day or night.
I prefer morning best as it suits my lifestyle I’ll explain why.
I like to look at the rising of the sun. I allow my mind to drift back
to that first morning in the garden of Eden ,when the first human eye beheld it in all its brilliance.
Each morning is Gods recreation of a new day, its a time of refreshing.

Oft times I have found that there is no better remedy to chase away the dark gloomy thoughts
and worries that plagued my sleepless night . They all disappear like the morning dew.
Its like a second chance to right the wrongs of yesterday. In the early hours while everyone
else is not yet roused from their slumber, It is an ideal time, less traffic on the roads, less noise.
I like spending that time out in nature it serves as a visual cue for me.
The colour green especially is very soothing to the soul. It just helps me to refocus
and prioritise my life my day, my goals away from my duties as wife mother sister, friend, employee.

Failure to do this makes me short tempered irritable, frustrated, miserable and makes me feel resentful and unappreciated by my family in regards to housework
cooking meals and the general care of my family . This time with God is fresh on my mind
and I realise there is something greater outside myself and I tend to keep things in
perspective so that I’m able to be the bubbly person I am.
Most of all having that personal devotion first thing is giving God the very best of me.
Lets face it if you are a single mother, a career woman etc,
If I were to take a snapshot of any modern woman’s day, It would be filled with exercise class, cooking, cleaning
,the demands of the job, getting your assignments
in on time at school and family pressure as well after which you are exhausted
and just want to pour yourself  into bed at night only to wake up and do it all over again tomorrow.

It’s a trick of the devil and this strategy he has adapted for the 21st century is a trap we
so easily fall into. The enemy of souls fills our time up with gym work outs, dropping kids off
to ballet or soccer practice, our job, school, ministry, voluntary work you name it.
Even our homes are saturated with noise ipod, iphone , mp3player, Nintendo wii, laptop ,radio and the biggest culprit television. Watch this space article coming soon on that too.

Here is a list of things I like to have to hand for my personal devotions:

Quarterly/devotional book
Hymnal/or cd with praise and worship songs
Prayer journal
A cup of something warm

Out Door

Quarterly/devotional book
Prayer journal
Camera  ,tripod
Mobile phone

Most of all an open heart and a willing ear to listen to a word from God. Let him heal you and give you rest from your troubles on this earth.
He too once walked this earth and He understands. Trust me the time you spend doing this will well be worth it.The text says

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

Matthew   11 : 28  & 30
