TRAFFIC JAM – My two hour ordeal stuck in Lakeside

China Traffic JamOn Thursday I worked a 4 hour shift and had magnificent plans to spend the evening at home with the family.
Sadly two hours into the shift I realised it just wasn’t to be .
Due to gail force winds  The Queen Elizabeth  II bridge was closed.
No one could get between the counties of Essex and Kent. It caused serious delays on the a13,a12 a2 and m25

Whilst I sat behind the wheel of Macy I waited. I looked into the faces of the other drivers around me.
There was a woman in the opposite lane expertly putting her make up on in the mirror.

There was a bunch of men in the car in front of me. The driver kept leaning on the horn and was busy
 gesticulating with his hands .
Even though I couldn’t see his face I knew he was angry.

The lights had changed about five times and still there was no progress
I stopped counting after that. I instead turned my thoughts and started to think about how we wait.

At the post office when the old man gets out a bag of coins and starts counting .
Are the fumes coming out of your ears?

Or at Asda you’re in the express lane with only a bag of sugar and a carton of a dozen eggs,
the woman in front of you has a  trolley load of seemingly unending groceries just when you
think she is finished she gets out her coupons and starts arguing about what’s expired and
how many packets of crisps are covered on this deal.
Are you cursing under your breath?

Then you are at the petrol pump you decide to use the pay at the pump option.
The driver of the car in front of you goes into the kiosk to pay meanwhile two more cars pull onto the forecourt
behind you and there are cars at the opposite pump so you are trapped.
Are you smiling?

In a few short years we have become impatient. Advertisers are pushing the buy now pay later on their commercial products.
What ever happened to saving to buy that something special. In a few months the price reduces dramatically because there is a new version.

One of my favourite Christian shows on 3ABNHOUSE CALL” the host refers to mail as snail mail as everyone is into e-mail. It always gives me the chuckles.
I think I like handwritten letters best because it shows someone sat down and actually took the time to compose it.
We are an impatient generation we want everything now. My gran-aunt Emily used to always say” patience is a virtue”

After  waiting nearly two hours in the car I started to think how two thousand years ago Christ said these words

“And, Behold I come quickly and my reward is with me
, to give every man according as his work shall be.
” Rev22:12

How well are you waiting? Are you sharpening your children like arrows knowing the Word of God being
ready to give an account of their faith to those around them. Are your neighbours and co-workers aware
that you are living a life patiently according to this hope that we have?
Or are we caught up in the carnal things of this world.
Take courage in the following verse concerning His promises.

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count
slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward,
not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance”.”
2 Peter   3 : 9

Let  us not be like the five foolish virgins in that parable but like the five wise virgins
( see Matthew 25:1-11 for the full story)

Patience is something we are encouraged to develop in this text. God’s word is
just chock full of good stuff.

“And to knowledge temperance;
and to temperance patience;
and to patience godliness.”
(2 Peter 1:6)

TEMPERANCE: moderation or self restraint especially in eating and drinking.
PATIENCE: the capacity to accept or tolerate delay, trouble, or suffering without getting angry or upset.
GODLINESS: devoutly religious.

I don’t know about you but I sure could deal with some more of those three qualities!
Blessings to you each as you strive for these characteristics in your life
and teach your children their importance. Jesus will help you As you make your
home a place where angels can dwell.
